The Rev. Paul, Minn. Discussion questions:. Can you think of a person or situation where you observed an imbalance between love of neighbor and love of self? What happened?
Does our culture appear to prefer self-love or other-love? In your experience of other cultures whether in other countries, families, social circles, etc. Why do you think that is? Is your life over-balanced towards self-love or other-love? How do you recognize that? Why do you think that happens? Many of people give something up for Lent as a way to remember the sacrifice Christ made for them. What if you were to take on something for Lent? What practice, behavior, or belief would you add to help you balance self-love and other-love?

Whatever it is and whoever you do it for, God could use you to bring good news of great joy to all people. A group of masked invaders are armed with hammers, pry bars, wheel barrels, and shovels. They look on, impatiently waiting for directions. You can see the anxiety on her face. A whole host of decisions need to be made on the spot. She could have never anticipated having to make these decisions and she has no experience to serve as a basis for her choices.
She has no way to know the financial consequences of her choices. She is very much at the mercy of the masked invaders. They gather around waiting to hear what she chooses to do and their presence compounds the stress. Mike pulls her aside. He is calm. He is knowledgeable. He is experienced. He has spent years building houses and years dealing with emotional, anxious homeowners.
He patiently describes the construction issues relevant to each decision. He explains the ease or difficulty of replacing or rebuilding, and the probable cost of each one. He is careful to explain the dangers of mold but rationally and sensibly. He gives her options she has no other way of knowing she has.

He explains which decisions can wait and which part of the work should be done while the masked invaders are present. For every choice she needs to make he gently emphasizes that he will support her decision. Mike has earned her trust. He is not in a rush. He does not pressure her. He leads his team of masked invaders to be careful and conscientious. Every exposed nail is pulled. Every floor is swept and vacuumed. Everything that can be saved is saved. He genuinely wants to know if there is anything more she needs from him or his team. However, after falling in love with the city and with my now-wife, Emilie, I knew I had found my new home.
Emilie and I started Reach with our two kids and a handful of friends in the summer of I lead a team of creatives who inspire and inform our church through all things related to design, photography, social media, and videography. I graduated from Northwest University with a degree in Business Management and also am a professional freelance photographer.
Be Still and Know That I Am God: Meaning & Biblical Context of Psalm
I stumbled upon Reach 6 years ago when I moved from California to the Seattle area and have had the joy of being a part of this church family ever since. I also like pizza just a little too much, just ask my friends. Hey there! I ask how we can proactively embrace and leverage technology to live out our vision: to be the church and reach our city. I get excited about innovating in ways that inspire people to learn, connect, and act.
My undergraduate degree is in Communication, and my masters degree is in Biblical and Theological Studies from Western Seminary. I started attending Reach five years ago. I was a junior in college at the time and the church was just starting. What up! Reach Youth is a group of middle and high school students who love pizza, and love the gospel even more.
We are passionate about helping students know God, and be the Church. I would love to help you belong here! I get the privilege of leading a team of creatives in telling stories of what God is doing in our church and a team of incredible women who deeply care about each other and knowing Jesus more.
Does God Give Signs?
My husband and I were a part of the small group of families that planted Reach 6 years ago. I also love dill pickles to a degree that no one truly understands. I oversee Operations and Serve Teams at Reach. I like learning how systems of all kinds work, planning how to make them function more efficiently, and equipping people to operate those systems far better than I could by myself.
We also love spending time with friends, especially over a tasty meal. Aside from all that, I do my best to put my Business Management degree to use as the Operations Manager of a local indoor sports facility.
My wife Kara and I started our church with a handful of folks in Fall , and slowly but surely have seen God bring some incredible people into the fold. Oh, I also share a birthday with Sylvester Stallone.
Can a scientist believe in the resurrection? Three hypotheses.
No big deal. Hi there! I also love equipping parents to disciple their kids at home throughout the week. In Reach Kids, we believe that children play a role in being the church and reaching the city, and I would love to help your family become a part of that! Bold Faith Sermon Guide — Philippians
